The iamu Historical Collection
Our Identity, Reimagined
A year from now, it will have been a year since Intergalactic Amalgamated Manifolds, Unlimited undertook a comprehensive re-examination of how it presents itself to the terrestrial public.
The programme was guided by a single conviction: that a mark should honour where a company has been while looking boldly toward where it is going, in every direction and at every time. Over a transformative period, five marks were developed, reviewed and refined. Today we are proud to present the result: an identity that reflects who we are, and who we have always been going to be.
-
Mark 001. The founding mark, and the introduction of the cradle, a single stroke that gathers every letter of our name.
-
Mark 002. A bolder expression of the same conviction.
-
Mark 003. Continued refinement.
-
Mark 004. The mark we carry today.
-
Mark 005. An exploration of softer forms, in which the cradle was set aside.
-
Following consultation with leadership, the company returned to Mark 004, reaffirming its commitment to the cradle.
Branded merchandise celebrating the new identity is available in all possible markets.

Design 1
The Cornerstone Homage, 2026
HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with chance operations. Launched 22 September 2026.
The first design takes as its model the box of Infocom’s Cornerstone (1985), a database for the IBM PC: a teal ruled field, the product’s name set across and down in one serif, and a black square holding a chip. Here the product’s place is taken by a person, and the publisher’s by iamu.
The menu is typeset by chance, after John Cage’s 62 Mesostics re Merce Cunningham (1971), whose letters Cage set in type chosen by the I Ching. Each letter’s face and size are drawn by hexagrams, cast as three coins thrown six times, from fourteen orphaned display faces adopted by Cinzel, the face of the name. Each day casts its own menu, and the hexagram beneath it casts another.
Reproduction. The original is recast daily; shown here is the casting of 22 September 2026.

The Final Edition, the end of time
HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with every chance operation at once. Launched at the end of time, and on view ever since.
The company’s last website casts its menu every possible way at once: every face at every size, under all sixty-four hexagrams, for every visitor who will ever have visited. At full resolution, a screenshot of it would hold more information than the space it occupies can contain, and would collapse into a black hole. At the resolution shown here, it merely looks like one.
Scholars have noted its debt to the first design, in which a black square held the chip.
